Use the RimWorld Comms Console Fast (1.6.4633) | Call Checker
First trade, no dead ends
Use the RimWorld Comms Console Without the Usual Blockers
Power the console, keep silver inside a powered orbital trade beacon, and call allies only when the goodwill, cooldowns, and temperature all line up. This page matches the installed PC build 1.6.4633 rev1266 and shows both the raw code costs and the higher numbers players often see in the live dialog.

Fastest successful trade path:
build and power the Comms Console, power at least one Orbital Trade Beacon, move silver + sale goods into coverage, then right-click the console with a usable negotiator. If no ship is overhead, an ally can send a caravan or orbital trader, but every request consumes goodwill and starts a cooldown.

1Unlock the hardware Microelectronics is the hard gate. The installed build lists the console at 120 steel + 4 industrial components + 200W and the beacon at 40 steel + 1 component + 40W.
-
2Beacon the money before you open trade For orbital trade, silver only counts when it is in powered beacon coverage. If your dialog says Silver: 0, the beacon is off, the silver is out of range, or the silver is under a roof.
-
3Use the right pawn The console will fail on the obvious hard blockers such as no path, no power, solar flare, no comm targets, or a pawn who cannot talk. A pawn who is incapable of Social is also a common float-menu dead end.
-
4Call allies only when the map is safe for arrivals Trade caravan and military aid requests are ally-only and also check the faction's arrival temperature range. If the seasonal temperature is too extreme, the button greys out with BadTemperature.
-
5Expect the UI to charge more than the raw code cost The request actions call
CalculateAdjustedGoodwillChange. That is why the raw code costs of 15 / 30 / 25 often appear in the live UI more like 19 / 38 / 31.
Ally Threshold
75 goodwill
Below that, you trade normally but you lose ally-only request buttons and emergency fighters.
Raw Request Costs
15 / 30 / 25
Trade caravan, orbital trader, and military aid respectively. The live dialog can show higher adjusted costs.
Cooldown Storage
4d / 15d / 1d
The game stores separate request timestamps: lastTraderRequestTick, lastOrbitalTraderRequestTick, and lastMilitaryAidRequestTick.
| Request | Raw Code | Common Live UI | Cooldown | Extra Checks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trade caravan | 15 goodwill | Often 19 | 4 days | Must be ally. Blocked by unsafe seasonal temperature. |
| Orbital trader | 30 goodwill | Often 38 | 15 days | Must be ally. No land-temperature check. |
| Military aid | 25 goodwill | Often 31 | 1 day | Must be ally. Temperature can block it, and some factions still cannot make it in time. |
Important split:
the game treats silver more strictly than ordinary sale goods. Goods only need powered beacon coverage. Silver for orbital trade needs powered beacon coverage and open sky.

| Thing | Needs beacon? | Can be roofed? | What happens if wrong? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver for orbital buying | Yes | No | The trade dialog shows 0 or not enough tradeable silver. |
| Items you want to sell to a ship | Yes | Usually yes | The ship will not count the item as colony stock ready to trade. |
| Extra stockpile farther away | Only if you want to trade it | Any | No problem until you expect it to show in the trade window. |
| Large warehouse | Use multiple beacons | Mixed | One beacon rarely covers a whole late-game dump room cleanly. |

########################################
B = powered orbital trade beacon
S = unroofed silver shelf / silver floor zone
G = roofed general goods shelves that ships can still buy from
Best practice:
1. Keep one obvious unroofed silver lane inside beacon coverage.
2. Put bulk goods on roofed shelves around it.
3. Overlap a second beacon before the stock room grows messy.
4. Keep a clean open pocket near the beacon so incoming orbital drops do not spill into weird corners.
Negotiator tips that still matter
- Use your best negotiator when you care about price.
- Poor talking or hearing capacity hurts trade outcomes, even when the console still opens.
- Ships do not need ally status to trade once they are already overhead.
When to call instead of waiting for RNG
- Call a caravan when you mainly need a face-to-face buyer and your warehouse is overflowing.
- Call an orbital trader when your goods are already beaconed and you want the fastest turnover.
- Save military aid for actual pressure. A single call often drops a thin alliance back to neutral immediately.
Troubleshooting & Call Rules
Grey Buttons Explained
Top blockers
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot use: No path | Interaction cell is blocked or unreachable. | Clear the tile in front of the console and remove pathing junk. |
| Cannot use: EMP | Solar flare / EMP disables powered electronics. | Wait it out. The console hard-blocks during the event. |
| Cannot use: No power | Console or beacon is unpowered, broken, or flicked off. | Restore grid power and make sure both devices are switched on. |
| Silver: 0 | Silver is not tradeable to orbital ships. | Move silver into powered beacon cells and keep that zone unroofed. |
| Must be ally | The requested action is ally-only. | Raise goodwill to ally level first, then re-open the console dialog. |
| Wait X | Cooldown is still running. | Caravan: 4 days. Orbital trader: 15 days. Military aid: 1 day. |
| BadTemperature | Seasonal map temperature is outside the faction's safe arrival range. | Wait for warmer or cooler conditions before requesting a land arrival. |
| Nobody to call | No valid ship or faction target is available right now. | Wait for a ship, restore ally status, or re-open the console after conditions change. |
What the installed code says about current costs
- Trade caravan: raw 15 goodwill, cooldown 240000 ticks = 4 days.
- Requested orbital trader: raw 30 goodwill, cooldown 900000 ticks = 15 days.
- Military aid: raw 25 goodwill, cooldown 60000 ticks = 1 day.
- Why your UI is higher: the request options run
CalculateAdjustedGoodwillChangebefore showing the number, so many players see values like 19 / 38 / 31 instead.
PC vs Console note:
this tool is tuned for the installed PC build 1.6.4633 rev1266. Console Edition uses its own UI flow and update cadence, but the core logic is still the same: power, beacon coverage, ally status, cooldown, and a negotiator who can actually use the console.

Modded shortcut:
if you deliberately want more trading than vanilla offers, KV - Call Trade Ships, Trading Options, and Total Orbital Trades all push frequency and availability upward. They are useful, but they also flatten the scarcity that vanilla trade is built around.
