RimWorld 1.6 Hospital Tool
Build a Hospital Bed Fast
Fast answer: finish Electricity, Complex Furniture, Sterile Materials, and Microelectronics, build a Hi-Tech Research Bench, then research Hospital Bed. One bed costs 40 metallic stuff + 80 steel + 5 components, needs Construction 8, and is placed from Architect -> Furniture. Add sterile tile and a nearby vitals monitor for the full medical boost.
Build cost: 40 metallic + 80 steel + 5 components
Extra gate: Complex Furniture + Hi-Tech Bench

Quick Build Checklist
Research + Build Gates
Important: Hospital Bed is gated by more than Microelectronics and Sterile Materials. You also need Electricity, Complex Furniture, and a built Hi-Tech Research Bench before the research and placement path is fully open.
1
Electricity
1600 research. First hard gate for both Sterile Materials and Microelectronics.
2
Complex Furniture
300 research. Required for Hospital Bed and unlocks the regular bed fallback.
3
Sterile Materials
600 research. Required for Hospital Bed and unlocks sterile tile.
4
Microelectronics
3000 research. Unlocks the Hi-Tech Research Bench required for Hospital Bed research.
5
Hi-Tech Research Bench
Build it before starting Hospital Bed research. It costs 150 metallic stuff, 100 steel, and 10 components.
6
Hospital Bed
1200 research, then each bed needs 40 metallic stuff, 80 steel, 5 components, and Construction 8.
Construction & Placement
Architect -> Furniture
- Finish the research gates above and make sure a Hi-Tech Research Bench is already built.
- Stock 40 metallic stuff + 80 steel + 5 components close to the build site.
- Assign a colonist with Construction 8+. Below that, the work will not start.
- Open Architect -> Furniture -> Hospital bed, choose any metallic stuff, and place it with one free adjacent tile for the vitals monitor.
- Immediately finish the room: switch to sterile floor where it matters, light the room, and keep a medicine shelf nearby.
Best rush upgrade: if Hospital Bed is still a few projects away, move from sleeping spots to a normal medical bed first. That already removes the worst surgery penalty. A hospital bed then adds better treatment quality, faster immunity recovery, and safer surgery on top.
Optimize For Healing (1.6+)
Beds + Facilities + Room Stats
Hospital Bed
Better treatment quality, 111% immunity recovery, 10% safer surgery, and faster healing while the pawn is in bed.
Vitals Monitor
Adds better treatment quality, faster immunity recovery, and safer surgery. It only works on hospital beds.
Sterile Tile
Each tile adds +0.6 cleanliness. Neutral cleanliness is fine, positive cleanliness helps surgery, and very clean rooms push you close to the top end.
Medicine Caps
Herbal medicine tops out early. Industrial is the standard full-strength option. Glitterworld gives the highest ceiling for difficult treatment and surgery.
Shelves next to the bed keep medicine close without letting a dirty stockpile sprawl through the room.
Troubleshooting
Common Blockers
Can't place the bed?
- Research check: Electricity, Complex Furniture, Sterile Materials, Microelectronics, and Hospital Bed all need to be done.
- Bench check: a Hi-Tech Research Bench must already be built.
- Builder check: your constructor needs Construction 8.
- Materials check: 40 metallic stuff, 80 steel, and 5 components.
- Menu check: Architect -> Furniture.
Pawns sleeping in the hospital?
Keep enough real bedrooms and use the medical room for treatment, not overflow naps. Large mixed wards invite pathing and assignment mess. Smaller clean rooms are easier to keep stable during raids.
Surgeries still failing?
- Fix the light: keep the room above 50% so the surgery penalty disappears.
- Fix the floor: keep cleanliness positive with sterile tile and low traffic.
- Fix the bed: use a hospital bed plus vitals monitor for the full medical stack.
- Fix the meds: switch to industrial or glitterworld medicine if herbal is holding you back.
Quick reminder: once Complex Furniture is unlocked, a normal medical bed is the right stopgap. Save sleeping spots for triage, not serious surgery.
